I found this pattern from CaliFaye Collection via this online magazine Stylo. Both excellent resources for modern children's wear patterns. I made 2 for some February Birthday girls and they wore them right away I'm told - but removed them during spaghetti supper!

Feeling like I've hit the big time when I received bolts of Japanese cotton/linen by Echino! The fabrics are brown, pink and green, not quite this vivid as the camera was in vivid mode by accident!! See below for a skirt photo in pink. These prints are discontinued for now and will be made into a-line skirts for this year's Arts, Crafts and Vintage Trunk Show on May 4th. Hope to see you there!

Mom's Fox Fur Hat c. 1972

I have good memories of my mom's fox fur hat, admittedly not this one as I'm about 6 or 8 months old here. Here's a note from Mom: WOW, what a hat. I'm sure that you will enjoy it as much as I did mine. I purchased mine from Sears at Yorkdale. It was with Christmas money from Grandma and Grandpa MacStephen. Latterly I told people that it had been a road-kill in the County because there was such an anti fur campaign. A few things about this photo (no, it's not instagram, it's the real thing!): the building I think is the school my mom taught at before having me so perhaps we're on our way to visit the staff and students, I'll have to ask Mom. Check out that wicker carriage! Not exactly a baby jogger eh? And how about my mom's coat, ah the 70's, love it too. Now back to the fox! Last Christmas I asked Forest for a fox fur so I could make my own hat. One year later (!) I finally tackled it. Covered in fur I managed to make a lovely hat this morning, in fact I'm wearing it right now. The fur is from the Yukon Trappers Association, just around the corner from our house. As it turns out, he was a bit small. By the time I measured my head and made the pattern pieces, I actually had to cut 2 semi circles for the top circle of the hat. Luckily the fur looks great no matter how you put it together! Here are some photos of the adventure...

Fur everywhere!

Some hand stitching. I love how unorthodox working with fur is - you get to use a ball point pen to mark your cutting lines on the leather, crazy! The needle is called a Glover, it has a tapered point with 3 sharp edges to cut through the hide.

There is a name for the lining I used, but I can't remember. It's for winter coat lining, satin on one side and flannel on the other, a lovely, silky, warm fabric...hmpf, can't remember...

Voila! It's big! I mean it fits perfectly but the fur is big!

Still covered in fur but pretty happy! Thank you Mr. Fox.

6 Dino/Dragon Tails

We had 6 kids under 7 here for Boxing Day! What fun we had and then I threw six Dino Tails in to the mix just for fun! I've made these before for birthday presents and they are so fun to make. The tutorial is from the blog Running with Scissors here and it's terrific. I highly recommend this project, if you need one! Smiles all around, infact, you might consider making an adult size!

Due to the encouragement (and shock) of clients and friends, I have finally taken the etsy plunge! It's pretty exciting. Just Quilty Pants for now, we'll see how they do. Ironically, this blog's first post was a Quilty Pants post! Must be because these pants are 100% designed, tested and made by me. Star Skirt Slacker

Here at georgianna craft inc. we like to keep our employee happy. One of the perks on the job is allowing our employee to make something for herself after a hectic week of production for the company. Her latest reward, whipped up today, is shown here, a star skirt, which she hopes to wear to the Littlest on December 7th. The fabric is a canvas from IKEA a few years ago and she is very pleased with the results. Even if she grew up knowing not to wear white after Labour Day weekend...!

Getting Ready for the Cranberry Fair

This weekend, Sunday to be precise, is the Cranberry Fair craft show here in Whitehorse. I really enjoy this fair and was really mad at myself when I botched my application last year. When I attended as a vendor in 2011 it was so much fun - I especially enjoyed being on the other side of the table as it can be very busy when you are a buyer instead of a seller! I really enjoy hearing who people are planning on giving their purchases to. There are lots of good stories and destinations too. Being a craft vendor in Whitehorse is a thrill as often your wares will end up across the country and sometimes across the globe. As a vendor I also love to catch up with friends I see in the crowd that I don't normally see day to day. The Tote No. 5, shown above, is made from some 1978 home dec fabric from my mother in law's fabric stash. It's really beautiful in person, with birds, bugs and cherry blossoms, or maybe pussy willows... I'm looking forward to Sunday and hope that my sewn goods will find new homes this Christmas. See you there!

Christmas Quilties

Sewing these up was a mouth watering experience. Another quilty pant first - 20 pairs of Christmas Quilties have been delivered to Angellina's Toy Boutique - not sure if they are putting them out right away or saving them for a bit.
